Okay, so, I have a Rear DI table, relatively happy with the results so far, it came to installing the illuminators today after a long wait while they shipped from Hong Kong (paid more for the postage than the actual lamps!).

Here’s the result, using a PS Eye, only a bit of floppy diskette tape in the lens for now (affordable suggestions? Would rather not pay the $18 postage for a filter from the US to UK from PP). Using CCV 1.3, 10mm acrylic surface, with the projection surface a nice sheet of vellum.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I could do to improve the contrast? (Yes, there is a hand there) The illuminators are these things, 4 of them pointing into the walls. It’s got an MDF build, unpainted, could this cause an issue with the IR diffusion, perhaps in need of a lick of white paint?

there is a problem with your camera/filter… did you modify your ps3 to have it IR sensitive ? you should also try using exposed developped camera film, works better than floppy disk…

Yeah, I had to cannibalise two PS Eyes to swap the lenses so I could have the good lens (he now complains about a weird lens shape due to the manufacturing difference =P). But I removed the filter completely. It wouldn’t surprise me if it’s the camera film, I might try popping down to the photography department at college and seeing if they have any of the stuff spare.

Isn’t it the unexposed film, though, not exposed?

can you post a screenshot of your ps3 image without the filter plz ?
you need exposed developped film to have a proper filter… you should find a piece on the end of a negative band…

No visible light filter here:

I’m thinking a mixture of bad filter and a lack of proper lighting placement?

also if they are the small 48 LED IR illuminators they may have a light sensor, they don’t come on unless it is dark enough, and even then, they get brighter as it gets darker, I covered mine with electrical tape.

I did tape over them, but only with what I can available, which was red electrical tape, they still go off if directed at a bright light, I think I found some black tape yesterday so I might try going over it with that.

Quite a bump, but hey.

I tried using some exposed negatives instead and it was actually worse, much blurrier than the floppy tape. Anyone got any other suggestions? Getting quite anxious now, because I’m not getting any cash off the other team members till this works. :<
